NCD Academy: Joining forces to empower healthcare professionals through education

According to the World Health Organization, 7 in 10 deaths globally are caused by noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) — including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions and mental health disorders. Yet, most of these diseases are preventable.

At Viatris, we believe education is a powerful lever for change. That’s why we are engaged in the NCD Academy as a founding sponsor - an innovative, free online platform developed and operated by the American College of Cardiology in collaboration with the NCD Alliance and the World Heart Federation. The program provides high-quality, expert-led continuing education to healthcare professionals (HCPs) across the globe, equipping general practitioners, specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and community health workers with the knowledge to better prevent, detect, and manage NCDs.

NCD Academy has already empowered ~70,000 healthcare professionals in over 20 countries - and through them, we aim to improve the lives of 100 million patients by the end of 2025.

Europe’s Leadership on AMR

In the European Union, antimicrobial resistance is responsible for an estimated 33.000 annual deaths and it costs the region 1,5 billion euros per year in healthcare costs and productivity losses. AMR is a priority for the European Commission, having established the EU One Health Action Plan in 2017 and the EU Pharmaceutical Strategy among other initiatives to address challenges and risks posed by AMR. The review of the pharmaceutical legislation is a unique opportunity to address current AMR challenges and create a future-proof regulation that ensures access to high-quality antimicrobials and reduces inappropriate use of antimicrobials through a multistakeholder approach.
